Transforming Four Washrooms into
Welcoming Gender-neutral spaces

The Project

Situated in Wrexham, Morgan Llwyd is a welsh-medium secondary school and just one of two with a Sixth Form, making it vital to provide a caring and supportive environment for their student cohort.

The school decided to use the summer holiday period to give a new lease of life to its four gendered washrooms – seeing the opportunity for this to improve student wellbeing, the decision was taken to transform the spaces into two gender-neutral washrooms. Another key design detail meant the new spaces were also to be opened onto the main corridor – this would allow for teacher supervision to reduce instances of bullying or harassment.

We were chosen by Washroom Fit-Out Company (WFC) to supply cubicle and washbasin components, with a brief to provide products in line with the school’s design vision and to a strict delivery timetable.

The Solution

Working closely in tandem with WFC, we suggested a series of solutions that would help to create areas which are safe and inclusive for every student, regardless of their gender identity.

Full-height Force Privacy Cubicles finished in stylish Polyrey Gris Orage (G059) offered a neutral colour scheme, as well as a practical option capable of withstanding the most harsh and demanding washroom environments. These have been finished with Powder Coated Nickel Ironmongery fittings and installed with matching partitions and pilasters.

For the handwashing areas, each washroom was supplied with two, three-person wash troughs in a sleek Corian Glacier white finish, as well as Laminate Duct Panel Systems which not only match the cubicles in colour, but also allows easy access to pipework for maintenance teams.

Another consideration we had to take into account was how these products align with other elements of the washroom supplied and installed by WFC, such as vinyl flooring and white PVC wall cladding. Combined, all of the washroom elements came together to create a far superior facility for students – an inviting washroom space that supports privacy and inclusivity.

“This was a big project, and CCS’s support has been invaluable throughout. The products selected have supported the school’s vision from both a practical and aesthetic perspective, and timely delivery ensured we were able to complete the project during the school holidays.” – Adam Chew, Director, WFC.
