Universal Toilet FAQs

What is a Universal Toilet?

Also known as a Superloo, a Universal Toilet is a self-contained, single-occupancy toilet cubicle that combines a toilet, hand-washing, and hand-drying facilities in one unit. Designed to offer maximum privacy, these toilets are inclusive for all genders and provide a future-proof solution for commercial environments, making them ideal for workplaces, offices, and hospitality venues.

What is the recommended size for a Universal Toilet?

If you’re installing Universal Toilets in commercial buildings, such as workplaces or public buildings, it’s essential to comply with Approved Document T guidelines. These standards ensure the toilet meets either Type A or Type B requirements for accessibility and usability.

If you’re unsure about compliance, our specification team can provide expert guidance tailored to your project.

What are the benefits of Universal Toilets?

Universal Toilets, commonly known as Superloos, are an excellent choice for commercial spaces due to their adaptability and inclusivity. They provide complete privacy, making them suitable as unisex or gender-neutral facilities. Their future-proof design accommodates diverse occupant needs, ensuring your washroom is ready for all users.

What’s included in a Universal Toilet?

A Universal Toilet is a fully integrated, self-contained unit that includes a toilet, hand-washing, and hand-drying facilities. Built with high-quality materials, washrooms often feature modern, space-saving designs that prioritise privacy and durability for busy environments.

Where can Universal Toilets be used?

Universal Toilets are versatile and perfect for commercial applications. They are commonly installed in office developments, premium hospitality venues, and leisure facilities, providing a sleek and inclusive washroom solution for high-traffic environments.

What products are used within Universal Toilets?

Universal Toilets should reflect a modern, high-end aesthetic. Durable and sustainable materials such as quartz vanity tops, modular mirrorBoxes, and solid surface basins are often used. These finishes ensure the washroom aligns with the overall design of your commercial building while being easy to maintain.

Are Universal Toilets suitable for disabled users?

While Universal Toilets can sometimes be adapted to meet Doc ‘M’ requirements, dedicated accessible WCs are recommended for compliance with disability standards. If you’re considering Universal Toilets for a commercial project requiring accessibility, our team can provide expert advice on the best layouts, solutions, and products to meet your needs.

Can Universal Toilets be gender-neutral?

Yes, Universal Toilets are an excellent choice for commercial washrooms seeking a gender-neutral solution. These single-occupancy cubicles offer full privacy and incorporate hand-washing and hand-drying facilities. Their inclusive design future-proofs your space for diverse occupants, making them ideal for offices, hospitality venues, and public buildings.

What’s the difference between Superloos and Universal Toilets?

There is no functional difference between Superloos and Universal Toilets—they are the same type of washroom. The term “Universal Toilet” was introduced in Approved Document T of the UK Building Regulations, which required the renaming of Superloos to better reflect their inclusive and accessible design.
