Material Source Studio, a hub for architects, designers, and property professionals, serves as place to inspire and encourage discussions amongst the UK’s built environment community, with locations across the country.
As a long-standing partner since the launch of their Manchester studio, Concept Cubicle Systems has collaborated once again with their Creative Director, Darren Clanford, to refurbish and elevate their lower-ground washroom area by refreshing its three existing universal toilets – originally supplied and installed by our team.
Universal toilets, also known as superloos, are a self-contained, single-occupancy washroom cubicle that includes a toilet, hand-washing, and hand-drying facilities.*
Aligning to the client’s specification, an earthy, monochromatic palette inspired by natural rock face was selected. To achieve this, the existing quartz vanity tops and mirrorboxes were removed and replaced with Dekton vanities inside each cubicle.
The first features Dekton Argentium with a VB600 side sloped basin. The second showcases a Dekton Grafite vanity top with a VB500 front sloped style basin, and the third presents a Dekton Bromo vanity top with a VB600 left sloped style basin – all featured matching stone facades that were supplied and installed by our team.
The refurbished superloos kept the existing duct panel systems and vanity units in Polyrey’s Gris Orage (G059), in ‘Touch’ for its smooth, anti-fingerprint finish. All toilets feature textured access panels in the same storm grey in ‘Roche’, a stone-like effect that pairs beautifully with new Dekton vanities and wall coverings.
In keeping with the updated scheme, deck mounted manual taps and sensor deck mounted soap dispensers were integrated on to the vanity tops for a sleek and easy to maintain user experience. Rectangular wall mounted mirrors add a refined touch, perfectly tying the scheme together while maintaining a balance of contemporary style and practicality. All accessories were finished in Satin and supplied from The Splash Lab.
The result is three fresh and impressive universal toilets at Material Source Studio Manchester that embody our dedication to delivering high-quality, sustainable washroom solutions while enhancing both user experience and visual appeal.
*In light of Approved Document T (as of 1 October 2024), workplace and public building washroom designs must now provide separate male and female facilities where Building Regulations approval is required. Universal toilets can be provided but, they must be alongside single-sex facilities and where space allows. As this project is a refurbishment to an existing washroom build, it did not require Building Control approval and therefore not required to comply to Part T legislation.
